Three Arizona Auto Repair Facilities Go ‘Green’
Phoenix, Ariz., August 3, 2010. Three Arizona auto repair shops have recently earned the Green Shop designation from AAA Arizona and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) after demonstrating their above-and-beyond stewardship to the environment.
AAA Auto Repair in Phoenix and Jimmy’s Broadway Automotive and Tucson Mountain Motors, both in Tucson, grew the AAA Green Shops list to 28 by using reasonable and cost-effective ways that exceed environmental standards to prevent pollution and conserve resources.
“These shops take enormous pride in their performance, service, and now, their environmental responsibility, so it’s an honor for us to recognize them,” said Don Nunnari, AAA Arizona vice president of membership products and services.
AAA Auto Repair in Phoenix, the auto club’s third club-owned facility to qualify for the Green Shop designation, is located at 1050 E. Camelback Road. With the addition of the Phoenix location, all AAA Club-Owned Auto Repair facilities in Arizona are certified Green Shops.
“We are thrilled to have all three of our shops taking a greener initiative and doing their share to protect our environment and resources,” said John Walter, AAA Arizona’s general manager of automotive products. “These efforts not only benefit our businesses and employees, but they help our customers and community.”
Jimmy’s Broadway Automotive, a family-owned business and AAA Approved Auto Repair (AAR) facility, has been in Tucson since 1956 and has been located at 2448 E. Broadway Blvd. since 1990.
“Growing up, I was a Boy Scout, and the main lesson I learned was to be environmentally responsible. You clean up after yourself; you don’t leave anything behind,” said Dave Shinkel, owner of Jimmy’s Broadway Automotive. “This is my neighborhood, as well, so I want to be a good neighbor.”
Tucson Mountain Motors, also a AAA AAR, has been operating in Tucson for 17 years, and it is located at 3045 S. Kinney Road.
“We’re half a mile from the Tucson Mountain Park entrance, and we care about our environment,” said Pete Jacoby, Tucson Mountain Motors owner. “So when we found out about the Green Shop program, it seemed like the right thing to do.”
To earn the Green Shop designation, facilities must achieve a high-set standard in two key areas: preventing pollution and conserving resources. Some of the qualifying efforts include using specialized equipment, applying alternative cleaning and disposal methods, reusing supplies, or recycling materials whenever possible.
As a certifying authority for the Arizona Green Business program, AAA Arizona inspects and certifies Green Shop applicants under the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s Green Business Program.
Green Shops are inspected for compliance and renew their certification statements every two years. For a complete list of AAA Arizona Green Shops, visit the AAA Green Shops page.
