CarFit
Driving today is more difficult than ever because of more traffic, bigger vehicles and faster speeds. Engineers who design vehicles and roadways are making improvements to adapt to these demands, but older drivers themselves can take measures to ease the stress of driving. One thing older drivers can do is ensure that their vehicle “fits” better. Changes in vision, flexibility, strength, and even size and height can reduce control when behind the wheel. Adjusting the fit of the vehicle may compensate for such changes, making you more comfortable and in control.
The CarFit Program focuses on the fit of your vehicle, ensuring that you have:
● A clear line of sight over the steering wheel.
● Room between your breastbone and the airbag/steering wheel.
● Properly adjusted headrests.
● Easy access to the gas and brake pedals.
● Proper seatbelt positioning.
● Maximized rearview and side mirror visibility.
In addition, an occupation therapist may be available to discuss using adaptive devices, such as visor extenders, pedal extenders, back support cushions, and more.
CarFit can make a lifesaving difference to both you and your loved ones.
